PxPlus - WindX on IOS or Android
« on: January 23, 2019, 06:24:23 PM »
Is there a roadmap for including Simple Client or WindX, on an IOS or Android device?
We are regularly asked this question!
We have offered iNomads but the expense and difficulty of implementation is always the killer.
Thanks

Part of the problem of migrating WindX to a iOS or Android device has to do with real estate and control compatibility.

iNomads provides a solution that addresses control compatibility but many applications are not well suited to the smaller screen sizes and often require rework.  In many cases its just not practical on a small screen to allow for the number of controls/inputs that most applications want.

As for the specific issues you mentioned, we are looking at addressing both the expense of iNomads and the ease of implementation with PxPlus 2019 with the introduction of an App builder.  These should make it easier to integrate PxPlus applications with your iOS or Android devices.

Lastly, for many clients the simple solution for running on a Smartphone or iOS is to use the free Windows RDP app and connect to a Windows server running the application either locally or via WindX.

Hi Mike,

any new update on this subject?  I have an Android Scanner project in motion right now and would be great if there was another way other than telnet to access the pxplus apps and data on a RHE Linux.

Thanks,

While I don't personally have any experience with Android based scanners, if they have a browser (likely given they are Android devices) and that the scanner simply feeds the value of the bar code into the system as if it is typed, the easiest solution would be to create a web page to accept the inputs.

Now the App builder we introduced in 2019 could be used to launch an iNomads screen, however I'm not certain that's the easiest solution.

My suggestion (assuming the device does have a browser) would be to create a simple HTML application which the users could use to enter the bar code data.  You could used Webster+ and perhaps even the Nomads file maintenance generator to manage the basic screens -- although creating HTML pages from scratch with Webster+ is pretty simple.

You could run this using the *ezweb/server on a separate 1 user Web PxPlus license since a 1 user is likely all you likely need to support 5 or so scanners given the design of Web applications.   If you want to add security, the Let's Encrypt interface built into EZWEB will provide you the ability to run https.
