Secondary popup menu when using spell checker
« on: February 26, 2021, 01:29:35 PM »
Dear List,  We are trying the new ability to use the Windows spell checker on multi-lines.  We have noticed that after right clicking to correct a misspelled word a second pop menu is being displayed that has copy/paste options on it.  Is there a way to disable this?  This is using PxPlus 16.20

We have made changes such that the first menu displayed will be the Spell Check menu.  If the user corrects the spelling then the subsequent menu will be suppressed.  To Cancel the Spell check menu and see the Cut/Copy/Paste menu press ESC.

This will be in a Patch release for V17.10 due for release soon.

Hi Mike:

That doesn't do us much good as the client can only go to V16 based on their CCP setting - they're always a version behind.

Normally, we would be using a spell checker that we have had in place for a very long time (20 years), but due to the pandemic, and people working from home, panels associated with the third party spell check application are hidden behind a PxPlus panel.  People think they're hung up as they can't see where they are supposed to do something associated with spell checking.  The issue has something to do with screen displays on systems that have multiple people connecting (possibly Citrix Terminal Server) and differences in screen resolutions on the workstations at the user's home.

Is this patch something that can be added to a V16 *win/ program?

Regards

Dave,

They could upgrade to and get off the Late Adopters plan and get current or wait till we release V18 which we anticipate will be in May.

Hi Mike:

They will only be using our application for a period of less than 12 months, so an upgrade of PxPlus isn't in the cards - especially when the upgrade is to allow them to get a fix to a version that will be two releases back when 18 if released.  It would appear that nobody else caught this issue in V16 or v17 which is surprising as the spell check is a nice feature.

I take it then, that it is not something that could be updated by an adjustment to a PxPlus program - is that correct?

Dave,

Unfortunately this was the way it was designed.  It has been this way almost 2 years and only recently has anybody even requested we change it.

In fact the first time anybody asked for it to be changed was February 16 this year and yet we managed to get in a change in less than two weeks.

I'm sorry that your client was not willing to upgrade to the current version, as it would them access to this change today.
