Nomads / Re: SHOW CONTROL
October 19, 2024, 07:48:27 PM
Hi Mike, many many moons ago, someone (Mike or Yvonne) said was better use MULTI_LINE (instead of Fonted Text) to have a greater control over the shown text. Indeed, yes, you're right, the fonted text would be the control to use... but ...

Also, the only 'use' I saw for the regular text (aka 'Fixed Text') is have some clickable titles, but, the other controls (like transparent buttons) isn't longer need ...

Perhaps some of the resident gurus have a better explanation.

Uhmm, I don't know if the fonted text control is able to show/hide (I made a test and didn't work).

Why you don't use a MULTI_LINE control instead? (With bordeless and locked attribs).

Nomads / Re: Report Writer key range
October 17, 2024, 11:35:49 AM
Here you can find a complete sample:

Report Writer filter (Start-End) sample

It start creating a StartValue and EndValue parameters (so the user can change/enter them) at run time; them it uses a filter to use StartValue and EndValue as limits of report's data ...

Language / Disable LISTing on some users/clients
September 07, 2024, 08:51:43 PM
Hi, it's possible to disable the LIST feature on some users/clients? The customer has a PxPlus 10 users license and he wants to disable the programming ability (LIST, modify programs) in 8 places, so only 2 users will have the ability to modify programs. Not allowing that users be able to break the program and stay on console is a great start, but some programs are old and still need to be assisted/checked before any other action, so the user could be able to stay at console due an error... I think if we're able to limit the LIST/LOAD/SAVE commands will be enough ( :-X )... Any ideas?

  Thanks in advance,
  Jean H//

Language / SORTBY clause with SELECT directive ...
August 04, 2024, 10:36:32 AM
Hi, I thought there was a SORTBY clause in the SELECT directive... but looking the documentation, I can't find it... If I'm wrong (the most likely), there is a simple way to add a sorting method while using the SELECT..NEXT RECORD construct?

What I 'need'? some like this:

select * from table$ where city$="Caracas" sortby codigo$
 ...
next record

Note: Of course I can use the KNO clause, but sometimes the required field (for sorting) isn't a key.

  Thanks,

Programming / Re: Why use PVX?
June 18, 2024, 06:28:21 PM
Hi I'm in the process of finishing a PxPlus book, my native language is spanish, but using some help I'm translating it to english, it have 350 some pages and covers mainly NOMADS and  the programming (the CONSOLE programming) too. If everything goes fine... I think in a couple of months will be available. The content would be entry level (perhaps some mid-level topics); but it won't be an 'encyclopedic style' or a book with some of the 'super-clever' approaches of Mr Mike King (hope some day I can use some of the his great routines in the book!); instead is an user frendly (and simple) approach to learn and use PxPlus.

About the OP: Why use Pvx/PxPlus? Some years ago (5 or so) we felt the need to explore other solutions/languages, and tryied some: Embarcadero, Phyton, and other frameworks; they are great, but in a couple of months, we found working in some stuff that was 'automatically' done in PxPlus or taking 2 weeks to finish tasks (in others languages) when we could finish in PxPlus in a couple of days. Also, we didn't like the need to use several tools: Database, Language, Designer, Data Base Query and so on ... in PxPlus we focus in just one tool. The 'final' point is the easy approach (in many cases) to solve certain tasks; a customer ask for a report involving several tables, some calculations and similar to an already done report, we copied the program, made the changes and the customer have the report for the next day! Later we optimized it, but the answer was fast!

Nomads / Modifying Calendar query
May 19, 2024, 03:52:44 PM
Hi, perhaps the sunday afternoon is hitting me... but I can't figure out how modify NOMADS created calendar (this associated to a multi_line query), I think I can use the DEF DTE to translate the days names, but didn't work. Any generous soul  ;D could be pointing in the right heading? Also want to see if I can move the calendar panel (to be at the side of control, no below)...

  Thanks!

Webster Plus / Webster 101: Web for dummies
April 04, 2024, 10:09:05 AM
Hi, I'm trying to approach to the dark side of web computing  :P ... and Webster looks like the ideal tool, I already saw the videos, the manual entries, the CATS Demo; also I tryied to create a Sidelink menu and integrate a FileMaint panel with it... but I didn't get any possitive results (besides a HUGE headache  :-[ )... In the 'regular' world of Client-Server I define some Tables, define the filemaint and query panels, another panel to 'gather' the other panels (aka a MENU) and voila! I can mix those easily, but in Webster I am NOT ABLE to figure how to start, how to begin a simple menu (1.- Data Entry, 2.- Bye) and link the NOMADS generated FileMaint HTML to option 1

Again sorry for my obtuse mind, I dunno if the chemicals are ruining my brain or just 'An old dog not learn new tricks" ...

  Any ideas?

March 01, 2024, 07:43:52 PM
Hi I'm using PxPlus 2023 Update 1 (version 20.10) running under Windows 11; Chart type: Native (Type Column, 2D);Font: Arial, 11 pts; Margins: setting of "2" (top, left, right, bottom margins)

I don't know how to change the dataset legend (marked in yellow in the attached picture). I need to the change font/size.

Thanks,
